8 Tips For College Students Wanting To Apply For A Credit Card
by: Mario Churchill
High school life is over. You’ve moved away from home and you’re starting a brand new chapter in your life with college. Independence feels great, but it’s sure to feel greater if you’ve got your own credit card, don’t you think?
8 Tips for College Students Wanting to Apply for a Credit Card
Here’s what you can do to make the credit card application process as hassle-free as possible.
Tip #1 Prepare proof of identification. Have your photos ready as well as all your valid IDs. Credit card companies will always have to verify that you are indeed who you say you are before you can proceed any further. IDs where your age is stated are also preferred because you have to prove you’re at least 18 years old as well. If you have any bills under your name, take them with you as well because they can serve as proof of residence.
Tip #2 Prepare proof of schooling. Credit card companies generally prefer to issue credit cards to students who belong to accredited colleges and universities. If you belong to such a school then you’re in luck. If not, you can compensate it by showing your previous records – if they’re excellent, that is. Just like when you’re applying for a driver’s license, credit card issuers also take academic and extra-curricular excellence as a sign of maturity and trustworthiness in your part.
Tip #3 Prepare proof of financial assets. Student credit cards tend to charge higher rates than usual, but you might be qualified for lower rates if you’re already working or you have money and a bank account in your name. Either way, make sure you can submit documentary proof of your work or assets.
Tip #4 Speaking of interest rates, the first thing you should look for in a credit card is the lowest possible interest rates. This might mean not being able to enjoy a reward-based credit card, but at your age, you might not yet afford the higher rates charged by credit cards offering reward points. If you see a 0% APR credit card, make sure to check how long the offer would last and what the standard APR is afterwards.
Tip #5 A number of credit cards allows you to apply even without a cosigner, but some of them tend to have stricter application requirements. If you don’t want to go through the trouble of submitting additional requirements, simply ask your parent or legal guardian to act as your guarantor when you apply for a credit card.
Tip #6 Always look for a credit card that allows you to manage your account online. This will allow you to check your account balance regularly and know when and how much you have to pay for your credit card every month.
Tip #7 There are a few additional perks that you might deem necessary. If you are fond of shopping online, look for a credit card that offers you fraud liability guarantee at no extra cost. Other credit cards offer you “thank you” points for being a prompt payer.
Tip #8 Now that you know what you need from a credit card, find one that matches your preferences and then submit your application. Remember to be courteous and answer all their questions honestly. You’re sure to have your application approved in no time. Have fun with responsible swiping!

Teen Chat: 7 Ways O Believe In Yourself – Part 2
by: Christine McGogy
Hi Teens:
Check out a better way to look at yourself!
Here are some examples of adjectives to describe a better way of thinking about yourself. Throw out those old, dark sunglasses you have been wearing and put on a pair of new, super, great-quality sunglasses that will let you see yourself in a much better light!
Alert Appreciative Attentive
Caring Compassionate Considerate Courteous Curious
Determined Dependable Disciplined
Endurable Enthusiastic
Fair Faithful Flexible Friendly
Generous Grateful Gentle
Helpful Handy Honest Hardworking
Imaginative Joyful Just
Kind Loyal Loving
Organized Outgoing Open-minded
Punctual Patient Persevering Positive
Resilient Resourceful Reliable Respectful
Sense of Humor
Trusting Trustworthy Truthful Tolerant
Understanding
Start giving yourself the credit you deserve.
Notice the things you do well every day.
Recognize that you get to school on time every day, pay attention in class, and take care of your school assignments. These actions show commitment, responsibility, organization, an open mind, self-reliance, and more.
How are you getting along with people? Do you show your friends you care about them? Do you remember people's birthdays? Do you speak well of others? If you do, you are demonstrating kindness, caring, honesty, generosity, and thankfulness.
Please take the time to think about how many positive words you could use to describe the things you do with the above adjectives and add some more. Since we aren't trained to think this way, we need to rethink our thinking!
Also, please go back to what you wrote earlier about situations that you were in and comments that were made about you, and change the unhelpful me-beliefs to more supporting ones!
Do write down all the positive attributes you can think of about yourself starting with "I am" and then say them out loud.
YOU CAN CHOOSE TO REPLACE THE OLD, UNHELPFUL ME-BELIEFS WITH NEW, HEALTHY, SUPPORTING BELIEFS!
Tip #1: Be aware of your old negative beliefs, because those beliefs have kept you in your comfort zone. If you start believing in yourself, you will go and try out for the volleyball team. Of course, there is always a chance that things won't turn out the way you want them to, and then you'll have to deal with disappointment, something that is outside your comfort zone. It's far more comfortable to stay where you are then to take a chance. Most people have built-in resistance inside of them, and it keeps them where they are with negative me-beliefs. Be aware of this resistance and be prepared to fight it! You are enough!
Tip #2: Before falling asleep and when you wake up, think three positive thoughts about yourself. To help you remember to do that, write the number 3 on a piece of paper and put it by your bed.
“You're a perfectly valuable, creative, worth-while person simply because you exist.”
St. Francis de Sales
“You can be pleased with nothing when you are not pleased with yourself.”
Lady Mary Wortley Montagu
“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.”
Louisa May Alcott
“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.”
Lucille Ball
“Contrary to popular thinking, being worthy isn't something you earn, it's something you recognize. And once you do, you won't be able to think, speak
or behave in any other way than as if what you most wanted was meant to be.”
Mike Dooley

- How To Handle Student Loans Appropriatly
How To Handle Student Loans Appropriatly
by: Michael VanWormer
From The Desk Of: Michael VanWormer - Internet Research/Webmaster Homebizshowroom.com
Dear Student,
It is often said that the most effective debt management strategy is to be debt-free. But, in order to pay for your college education, you may need to take out student loans.
Student loans are applied by many people these days. It is for the hope that student loans can greatly support their education. Well, that is primarily the purpose of student loans, but there are some instances that getting student loans is what lead people to be buried deep in debt. This is common among those who failed to repay their debts or those who actually escape from their obligations.
Now, planning for successful repayment involves a lot of considerations. The planning should start before you place and strike your pen on your first promissory note. Just as you are making a commitment to your career by way of investing time and money in higher education, you should also make a commitment to your financial future by way of effectively managing your student loans from the beginning.
Here are the most recommended tips and tactics that may help you handle your student loan debt effectively and repay the loans successfully.
Tip #1: Do Your Own Research
Always note that not all loans are the same. Some of them, such as the ones provided by the Indiana Secondary Market for instance, offer benefits during school as well as after graduation in the form of repayment incentives, while other do not. They will pay the 3 percent origination fee normally charged on Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) loans, and this process actually means more money for the books, school supplies and living expenses. And, after you graduated, there is a chance that you will be qualified for reduced interest rates especially when you ready your payments up on automatic withdraw. So, with the differences in student loans, it is necessary that you do your research before signing the first promissory note.
Tip #2: Pay Attention to the Mail
Typically, every borrower receives important information regarding the student loan he or she took out. The mail usually comes in before, during and after school. So, it is somehow important that you read all of the materials you receive carefully. In case, you have questions, the source of the materials is available to welcome you with your questions. Don’t hesitate to ask, and never ignore the correspondence or you may miss out a very vital deadlines or details about your loans.
Tip #3: Be Organized
When taking out student loan from a particular institution, it is always best to save all of your student loan documents and correspondences. This makes you aware of what exactly you’ve agreed, what is expected from you as a student loan borrower, and how much you have borrowed. At the start of the student loan process, you may find it unnecessary to keep all the documents, but when the repayment period is approaching, there is a great possibility that you may refer to some or all of these documents.
To makes things easier for you, begin by setting up an easy to use record-keeping system where you can store your student loan documents and correspondence. As you may know, there are a number of books and software products on personal finance to help you get started. Whatever you may use, whether file folders, binders, portfolios, or envelopes, it is a good idea that you set up one folder for every type of loan or account you have and keep the items sorted accordingly.
Here is what you should keep:
• Important documents like your student loan applications, promissory notes, disbursement and disclosure statements, as well as loan transfer notices.
• Copies of all correspondences between you and your student loan lender, loan holder, and/or servicer, including your school’s financial aid office.
• Addresses and telephone numbers of your lender, loan holder, and servicer. These must be maintained up-to-date.
• The name, the date and time of the conversation, as well as a summary of what you have discussed. These must be considered especially when you are speaking with anyone regarding your student loans as these may be valuable for future reference or clarification.
Also, when setting up your record-keeping system, be sure that it is comfortable to use. This means a system that you will find easy to maintain over the life of the loan. This record-keeping system must also be secured from theft or fire. Many experts also suggest that you should keep all your student loan related documents and correspondences until all the education loans you’ve taken have been fully repaid.
Tip #4: Be present at All Required Entrance and Exit Sessions
When you take out student loan, you will be required to complete student loan counseling sessions. This is often considered when you first obtain the loan and upon graduation. Also, it is worth noting that some schools these days offer this on-line and the sessions will not require a great amount of your time. However, they will provide you with a great deal of information on your right and responsibilities as a borrower.
Tip #5: Learn to Manage Money like an Expert
It has been said that if you live like a professional while you are in school, you will live like a student once you’ve finished your degree. In other words, it is important that you know very well how to handle your money while you are attending school. This will help you lessen the total amount you end up borrowing, and in turn, the amount you will responsible for repaying.
Here are some of the tactics that are worth considering:
• Develop realistic budgets for while you are attending school and even after you graduate. This will allow you to borrow not more than you need, giving you a great chance to repay your loans.
• Learn to live as cheaply as you can. Always remember that you are just a student. You will enjoy a more comfortable lifestyle once you’ve graduated especially if you lessen your borrowing while you are in school. Some of the most recommended ideas for how to be thrifty include getting a roommate, renting a movie instead of going out to the theater, as well as bringing your lunch from home instead of eating out. Be thrifty as possible.
• For any credit card bills you receive, try to pay the full amount due.
• Establish a budget for yourself and follow it. While you are in school, it is important that you know how to resist the urge of using credit cards or your student loan funds to purchase things that are included in your budget. Don’t just buy unnecessary things.
• If possible, explore work-study or other part-time employment. As often said, it may give you an opportunity for you to study or obtain valuable professional experience, other than help cover overheads.
Tip #6: Maintain at least Half-Time Enrollment
Considering a half-time enrollment is highly necessary in order for you to qualify for an in-school deferment. The half-time enrollment normally takes six credit hours. Regarding your school’s requirements for half-time status, see your financial aid officer.
Tip #7: Take Advantage of Tax Savings
Some of the student who takes out student loans qualifies for tax credits. To see your own status, check with your tax advisor. The credits are actually based on your qualified tuition payments, and they can help reduce the amount of Federal tax you pay. Now, if you are paying interest on a student loam, you may also be able to take a deduction on your Federal tax return for those interest payments. Therefore, to obtain the full benefit of the credits as well as the deductions, grab the opportunity of employing the additional tax refund to pay down your student loan debt, or perhaps to handle your educational overheads.
Tip #8: Repayment Tips
As you enter the repayment period, note that being aware of your student loan obligations is very crucial. This is where the student loan default usually happens. It occurs when you fail to pay back the loan as agreed or meet the other terms of your promissory note. The promissory note for each of the loans must then be referred prior to your graduation or before you leave school so that you know what your rights and responsibilities are in repayment.
Here is what you should do as you enter the repayment period:
• Send your education loan payments when due every month, for the full monthly payment amount or more. This must be done regardless of whether or not you receive a bill.
• Note and understand the repayment options provided by your student loan lenders. With some available options, there is a possibility that you can lessen the total cost of the loan by making a high monthly payment. Other options may even lessen your initial monthly payments and may make it easier for you to pay back your leans early in your career.
• Understand the deferment as well as forbearance. In case you need them, just learn to exercise your options.
• Remember that the loan consolidation and its repayment options have its pros and cons. So, understand them.
• Keep your school, lender or servicer informed of your whereabouts. Contact them immediately if you change your name or address; have questions about billing statements; have problems making your scheduled payment on time; or if you want information on or application for deferment or forbearance.
• Read, note and understand all the correspondence you receive from your student loan lender, loan holder, or servicer. And, respond them promptly if asked to do so.
For Further Information
If for instance you need further information regarding your student loans, always remember that the financial aid staff at your school is probably your most important resource. However, there are also some consult publications from federal and state governments, lenders and scholarship granting organizations, and financial ad guidebooks that are available from your local bookstore. They are great enough for you to start your own search.

- Online Games – The Evolution
Online Games – The Evolution
by: Susie Symonds
Now we see thousands of people playing online games such as tetris, ping pong, mario bros, super mario etc for free but despite its history dating back to 1970s, for most people online gaming began with the explosion of Internet in 1993 and with the advent of Doom and Warcraft sometime in 1994 or 1995. This got further boost with publishers starting to add Internet connectivity to computer games in 1994-95.
The media, in fact, have themselves been ignorant about online games history. As far as they are concerned, online gaming just coincidentally happened when their advertisers started producing Internet-capable games. But it isn’t so…
Early Years of development
In early 1950’s a college student created a game much like Tic-Tac-Toe for a class project to be played on dinosaur computers of those days complete with cathode ray tubes for the screen display. The 1960’s had MIT students programming a game called “Space war” that could be played with two people over a primitive network. The late 1960’s brought the first “real” video games like table tennis and shooter games.
The 70s – the game begins
Serious online gaming began with the first interactive online game called ADVENT. In fact networked gaming got conceptualized with ADVENT. Networked gaming had users playing against each other within an online fantasy world. The first networked game was called Mazewar, a game which involved networked players traveling through a maze and attempting to kill one another.
Next came the interpersonal interaction in a multi-player environment. The first such game was called DUNGEN. DUNGEN had players competing against one another to complete a series of quests. DUNGEN provided with new settings and players each time the user logged on.
The late 1970’s saw the start of video game craze with more and more households getting computer savvy. As a natural corollary, people started writing their own games for the home computers. These programming hobbyists traded and sold these home-grown games in local markets.
Other changes in the 1970’s were home gaming consoles which used game cartridges. That meant the people could collect games cartridges for one base unit instead of having bulky game console systems.
The 80s – some pause before the storm
1980’s saw growing craze for the video and computer game craze, but online gaming wasn’t on the horizon yet. New games with better sound and graphics were introduced and gained popularity. Pole Position and Pac-man were two that achieved big popularity. It was during 1980’s when Nintendo introduced its first gaming system.
The 90s – revolution begins
The 1990’s saw the phenomenal growth in both popularity and technology mostly because of the rise of 3-D and multimedia.
Myst, the intellectual adventure game introduced gaming on the CD-ROM format. Fancier 3-D graphics hardware made FPS (first person shooter) games such as Quake possible.
The late 1990’s saw the exponential growth of the Internet, MUDs (multi-user dungeons) which made online games wildly popular. New and improved graphical interfaces had people all over the world playing against each other not only in FPS games but also in real time strategy games (RTS games) as well as third person games like Grand Theft Auto.
This was also the period when websites started offering online games such as tetris, ping pong, mario bros, super Mario, and other free online flash games and non-flash based games free for playing after registering with them. This really pushed online gaming into the popular psyche.
The 21st Century – world is just a playground
Early years of the 21st century were dominated by the DVD-CD-ROM. It has changed the way online games are played. The latest gaming systems such as Sony’s play station and Microsoft’s X-box have networking capabilities to enable people play with each other in real time from all over the world. Exponentially growing broadband internet services have made playing these online games possible in true sense of the word.
The only drawback to the constantly evolving technology for online games is that what you buy today might become obsolete by the next year. Luckily, for the serious gamers, the resale industry for these online games is huge. This resale industry is just another element to the ever-changing history of online game.

- Teen Drivers - Distractions and Other Risk Factors
Teen Drivers - Distractions and Other Risk Factors
by: Valerie Nay
Obviously, there are some pretty big differences in the danger factors between teen drivers and adults -- not the least of which are inexperience, risk taking, immaturity and greater risk exposure.
The good news is if we are paying attention, we can help kids stay more focused on safety as they navigate the teen driving years (and possibly reduce our own risks as fellow drivers).
The Facts:
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the crash rate per miles driven is four times higher for 15 to 20 year olds than for drivers over age 20. The National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration reports that motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death for younger drivers, and that distracted driving is a factor in one out of every four crashes.
What’s Behind It?
A recent policy statement “The Teen Driver” from the American Academy of Pediatrics cites these reasons teens are at greater risk:
* Lack of driver experience
* Young age at licensure
* Failure to use safety belts
* Inadequate hazard-perception skills
* Distraction (cellular phone, food, drink, music)
* Transporting teenaged passengers
* Nighttime driving
* Speeding and reckless driving
* Fatigue
* Unsafe vehicle choice
* Alcohol use
* Drug or medication use
* Inadequate parental limit setting
* Unlicensed or revoked license
* ADHD
The Distractor Factor!
The study also reports a direct correlation between the chances of being in a car crash to the number of teen passengers. 16- to 17-year olds have a 40 percent higher risk of crashing when they have one friend in the car, 50 percent higher with two friends, and four times higher with three or more teen passengers!
The IIHS & NHTSA recommend the following for parents:
* Don’t rely solely on drivers' education – it may be convenient but typically it doesn’t do as good a job as a parent can at focusing on safety attitudes and decision making.
* Know the law – Restrictions on beginning drivers vary by state.
* Restrict night driving – it requires more skill and is generally more recreational – creating distraction and more risk taking.
* Restrict passengers – especially multiple teens. Nights are worse than days but passengers are always distractions for a beginning driver.
* Supervise practice driving – spread it over six months, continue even after full licensure and include night driving and a variety of other driving situations.
* Remember that you are a role model – practice safe driving yourself to increase the odds your child will drive safely.
* Require safety belt use – don’t assume, but insist that your child wear a safety belt at all times.
* Prohibit drinking – adopt a no-tolerance policy. Even a small amount of alcohol is an impairment to a teen.
* Choose vehicles for safety, not image – select cars with the best protection in a crash and avoid cars that encourage speeding.
* Make sure your child has emergency contact information with him or her at all times -- especially in the car.
Some parents use a written driving agreement to outline their expectations, set penalties and establish graduated driving privileges in advance. The elements of a driving agreement can include obeying laws, practicing safe behaviors and even maintaining the car.

- How To Buy A Bounce House For Your Home
How To Buy A Bounce House For Your Home
by: Karrie Edwards
Bounce House Buying Guide
Bounce Houses have emerged as safe, fun alternatives to trampolines, and have become a party tradition. From inflatable fun centers, to backyard rentals, to the garage, bounce houses are popping up like mushrooms! In the past, renting was the only option, but bounce houses made of special materials have become affordable for home use. First and foremost, you need to choose the Bounce House that’s right for your family. This Bounce House 101 Buying guide shows you how inflatable bouncers and water parks work, and what to look for when purchasing an inflatable.
How do Bounce Houses Work?
Most quality Inflatable Bouncers and Water Parks fall under the category of Continuous Airflow. This means that an air blower continuously pumps air into the Bounce House or Water Park while the inflatable is in use (If you want to blow it up by mouth, you're in the wrong place!). Air escapes through the seams and the porous materials. You will hear air "breathing" out of the inflatable, or even see bubbles in water slides and water parks. This is perfectly normal, and not cause for concern. Beware of cheap knock offs. There have been a number of recalls due to low-cost knock offs that either split due to improper materials, or have fans that break apart during use. Blowers require power in order to inflate the bouncer, and must be used in areas that have power readily accessible. If you don't have power for your bouncing party, you will need a generator to run the blower.
Within the continuous airflow category, are two primary types of inflatables: Commercial Grade inflatables ( http://www.bouncersdirect.com/Commercial_Grade_Bounce_Houses_s/40.htm ) and Residential Grade inflatables ( http://www.bouncersdirect.com/Bounce_Houses_s/21.htm ) , which we will discuss, but this article is primarily focused on residential grade inflatables.
Types of Inflatables
Residential inflatables use woven oxford cloth as the primary material. This cloth makes them much lighter, weighing in at as little as 30 lbs, and starting as low as $200. Because of the lighter weight, residential inflatables are much easier to set up, take down and transport. Residential bounce houses can be used for years, if properly cared-for. These inflatables are not recommended for commercial use, or rental.
The most important criteria with oxford bouncers are stitching, material quality and weave. Steer clear of bouncers that are not double stitched with commercial stitching. Also, be careful with materials, and only buy from reputable companies. Cheaper materials may not have the proper pvc coating, or may not be balanced weave, making them weaker and prone tun splitting in one direction.
Commercial Inflatables are made of PVC tarpaulin material, and are designed for continuous use scenarios. These Bounce Houses, Slides and Water Parks are commonly used by rental businesses, churches and rec centers, day cares, etc. While commercial inflatables can be used for home-use, they are expensive, commonly starting at over $1,000 and running as high as $20,000. Additionally, they are very heavy, typically weighing well over 150 lbs for small units.
Bounce House Features
There are tons of different styles and themes for bounce houses, but they all boil down to a few main features.
• Bounce Floors! If you're buying a bounce house, this will be the most important feature. Make sure you get a bounce house that has a floor big enough to house all your kids, and strong enough for your intended use. The Superstar Party Moonwalk ( http://www.bouncersdirect.com/Superstar_Inflatable_Party_Moonwalk_p/inf-superstar.htm )has tons of room for big bouncing parties. The Play Palace ( http://www.bouncersdirect.com/Play_Palace_Bounce_House_p/inf-playpalace.htm ) has a commercial grade floor for heavier and older kids.
• Slides! The second most common feature of inflatables are slides. Many bouncers have slides there for aesthetic or safety purposes only. To get a slide big enough for kids to actually slide down, you'll need something at least a few feet tall. See the Misty Kingdom Bounce House ( http://www.bouncersdirect.com/Misty_Kingdom_Bounce_House_Water_Park_p/inf-mistykingdom.htm ).
• Water! Inflatable water toys and water slides are continuously winning awards. They keep kids cool and occupied during warm times. The Crocodile Isle ( http://www.bouncersdirect.com/Crocodile_Isle_Inflatable_Water_Park_and_Slide_p/crocodile%20isle%20water%20park.htm ) is an awesome water park. The manufacturer Blast Zone also has items like the Rainforest Rapids Amusement Park ( http://www.bouncersdirect.com/Rainforest_Rapids_Bounce_House_Water_Park_p/inf-rrap.htm ) that can be used as water parks, or used dry. Bounce houses can be used year-round. Water-only items will get you 6-9 months use a year.

- Planning A Child Care Startup?
Planning A Child Care Startup?
by: Dean Forster
A person, thinking about child care startup may very well be looking forward to a profitable business in the form of a child care center.
Setting up a child care center, is a flourishing business but it also requires a lot of dedication. The certain factors involved may be the cost of starting it altogether, making a business plan and looking after legal requirements.
These centers can also be started in spaces that are otherwise unoccupied during the entire week or within a school that has surplus space. If a child care center is set up within a school, it brings the advantage of having well coordinated programs.
After the location is decided, child care insurance is the next essential step. This is very crucial for starting a child care business. These centers offer dedicated services to working parents. Hence, these should provide a safe environment to the children. And, insurance works as an added security measure.
As this is a very fast growing industry, proper management is very important. This is also required to give the center, better recognition. As there are a number of child care centers, people will generally prefer the one that has a better management system. Therefore, better management system results in a flourishing child care center and great profit.
A management application is especially designed for childcare management that could be obtained before starting up the child care center. This software is easily accessible at a number of online and offline resources. This software provides complete, user-friendly and integrated modules that help in managing child records, billing and various accounting operations, available city subsidies, payroll records, direct deposits and preauthorized payment records. Find out more about childcare management at http://www.childcare-management.com
The child care software that maintains the records updates automatically. This helps the parents and family members understand the child's progress. It also provides an opportunity to them to observe the activities of the child. For the various child care institutions, security is of utmost importance. This security can be protected by using this software.
Finally, a business broker can be a good source of information. He could provide detailed information regarding a child care center like the availability of the area, its price, current market requirements and so on. He could not only provide you information but also help you strike the best possible deal of the infrastructure. Information of the brokers regarding a child care startup may also be found through a search on the internet.

- Kids and Money - Why Is It So Hard?
Kids and Money - Why Is It So Hard?
by: Jenny Ford
We learn so many things as we grow up. We learn how to walk, talk, and get away with not doing our homework. We learn how to play complicated games, many of them involving pretend money.
So, why is it so hard for us to learn how to manage money?
Why do so many people struggle to make ends meet, even on reasonably high incomes?
Why do so few people manage to provide sufficiently for themselves in retirement?
It’s not rocket science. We know what it takes. And there are some people doing it. So why isn’t basic money management as widely understood as basic geometry?
Imagine what life would be like if making money came as easily and naturally as riding a bike or tying your shoelaces. Imagine graduating high school with a permanent, secure, passive income already in place. You wake each the morning to find more money has appeared in your account overnight! If you want to travel, you do. If you want to paint, write, or do any other creative activity, you do. You choose your occupation based on what you love to do, not the burden of having to pay the bills. You have all the time you need to socialise with your family and friends, to stay in shape, and to practice your spirituality.
This world is not a pipe-dream. It’s not unrealistic. The world is alive with opportunity, more so now than ever before, and the opportunity is expanding exponentially.
With the right knowledge and attitudes, today’s kids can capture their share of that opportunity, and set themselves up for life.
So, why isn’t everyone doing it?
Because not everyone’s parents have the right knowledge and attitudes to pass along to their kids. Some of those who have the knowledge and attitudes are still setting themselves up in life, working long hours, and find it difficult to break the knowledge down into terms their kids can understand.
What can we do about it?
As parents, we need to be conscious that financial education ranks up there with education about nutrition, health, and communication. We must educate ourselves, so that we can educate our children.
There are many places to go on the web to get that vital financial education.
The Cash Smart Kids program (http://www.cash-smart-kids.com) provides lessons for the kids, plus additional reference material for their parents.
The Rich Dad website (http://www.richdad.com) is rich in content, and contains information about the Cashflow series of educational board games.
There are numerous e-Books, ezine articles, and offline financial publications with an online presence.
And, of course, there are dozens of relevant books in your local book store.

- Teen Summer Camp Teaches The Four-Part Apology
Teen Summer Camp Teaches The Four-Part Apology
by: Jim Hartley
At the teen summer camp, SuperCamp, we teach teens the Four-Part Apology, a very effective communication tool with friends, family, fellow students, even teachers.
Apologize with These Four Steps and Heal the Damage
Take these four steps when you’ve wronged or hurt someone, or when you’ve made a mistake significant enough to impact someone else. Here's an example of a response to a friend who is upset that you've cancelled plans with her on a few occasions.
• Acknowledge: Take responsibility for what you’ve done. Use “I statements” to show that you’re the one behind the action: “I acknowledge that I've canceled our plans at the last minute more than once and that this is upsetting to you.”
• Apologize: “I apologize for hurting you by wasting your time and making you feel unwanted.”
• Make it Right: Ask, “How can I make it right?” If the person doesn't have anything specific in mind, offer something to make up for what she missed when you cancelled. “Why don't we do out for dinner next Saturday?”
• Recommit: Show that you’re following a plan to keep the upset from happening in the future. “From now on, if I make plans with you I won't cancel them unless a real emergency comes up.”
The words “I apologize” are much more powerful than “sorry.” How often have you heard a nonchalant “I’m sorry” or just "Sorry" as if that would fix everything. At one of the schools where our Quantum Learning methods are used, the principal caught a young grade-school child doing something that was against the rules. When the principal spoke to her the girl mumbled a casual “Sorry.” The principal said, “You know, Elizabeth, in this school we use a Four-Part Apology.” The little girl replied, “Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.” I guess she hadn’t quite learned the process, but she did get a laugh from the principal.
The power of the Four-Part Apology lies in its ability to demonstrate that you’re taking responsibility for your actions. When the people in your life realize that you’re willing and able to do that, they’ll be more open and trusting with you—and your relationships will be better.
Clearing the air with the Four-Part Apology relieves tensions and feels great. It releases positive energy and creates synergy, especially if it’s tension that’s been festering for a long time. In the light of clear, positive communication, even long-standing miscommunications can be resolved. People whose relationships have faltered for years can get back on track when they apologize with this level of responsibility.
SuperCamp summer programs fill up fast. Parents, go to http://www.SuperCamp.com now to learn about enrolling your son or daughter while space remains. Age-specific programs are available for students in grades 4-12 and incoming college freshmen. - Tackling Peer Pressure
Tackling Peer Pressure
by: Jim Hartley
If you’re in your early teens you may already have encountered peer pressure … if you’re approaching your teens, it’s something you may face fairly soon. During the 26 years of conducting our SuperCamp academic summer camp programs we have learned quite a lot about the problems that teens face. Peer pressure is something that teens find very hard to deal with so we've come up with some suggestions.
Think about this scene: you’re on your way to a concert with a group of friends and someone pulls out a bottle taken from Dad’s liquor cabinet and starts passing it around. You don’t want to drink, but everyone else seems to be doing it and you don’t want to look like an outsider by refusing. What do you do?
Maybe you’ve been in a similar situation – one where friends are coaxing you to do something you know is not a good idea, like drinking, skipping school, or cheating on a test. This is not to put down your friends – they are the people who listen to you and are there for you when you need them. However, it’s important to remember that if someone wants you to do something that just doesn’t feel right – from something seemingly minor to some scheme that could land you in the principal’s office, or grounded, or even worse – it’s time to stand up for your beliefs and let the person know how you feel. How do you do it?
Step Out and Stand Up
Step out of your comfort zone and stand up for what you believe in. We all know this isn’t easy. Many problems have occurred for many teens because no one wanted to stand up and speak out about how they felt. It takes courage.
There may be one person among your group of friends who dominates – the one who stirs others into action. That’s fine. But when this person wants you to do something you’re not comfortable with, you need to let him or her know. Chances are you’re not the only one in your group who feels uncomfortable. Others may share your opinion, but are waiting for someone else to take the lead. They are looking for a way out, but are afraid to speak their minds. Once you speak up, they will quickly take your side and share their concerns.
So how do you “just say no”? State your position firmly, but avoid putting the person suggesting the activity on the spot. Calmly and simply stating “I don’t want to drink” is better than “No, thanks, dude. I don’t want to end up like you.” Always avoid personal attack – make the activity the issue, not the person. Sometimes a little humor can lighten the situation – half jokingly saying something about the consequences can get your point across and give others an easy opportunity to agree and a reason to "back out."
When That Doesn’t Work
Ideally, you should be able to stand up for what you believe in, but if you’re having trouble saying “no” to your friends here are two alternative strategies:
Ignore it. When someone comes up with some crazy plan you don’t want to be part of, pretend you never heard it. Turn up the radio or pretend to be concentrating on your homework or what someone else is saying. Your friend may take the hint and the whole idea may be dropped.
Blame your parents. This is one time when your parents’ rules come in handy. Say something like, “No way! If my parents found out, I’d be grounded for the whole summer! I’m not risking it.”
Whatever strategy you choose, you can feel proud of yourself knowing you have the ability to say no – you did not cave in to peer pressure. Going against the crowd isn’t easy – it takes courage and self-respect. But the more you do it, the more your courage and self-respect will grow. And respect for you will also grow among those who agreed with you and declined to participate in the activity. In fact, they may thank you for saying what they were feeling!
Would You Like Some Help?
At SuperCamp, our exceptional staff go in-depth with campers from age 9 to 18 on how to deal with peer pressure. Our Youth Forum is seven days long and it’s for students going into grades 4-5 in the fall. Junior Forum and Senior Forum are 10 days long. Junior Forum is for incoming 6-8 graders and Senior Forum is for incoming 9-12 graders. We even have a college boot camp, Quantum U, an 8-day programs for incoming college freshmen.
SuperCamp is held at eight beautiful colleges across the U.S. throughout the summer. Quantum U takes place at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. More information on our programs is available at http://www.supercamp.com and http://www.quantum-u.com.

- Teen Summer Camp Explains How Failure Leads To Success
Teen Summer Camp Explains How Failure Leads To Success
by: Jim Hartley
Teens at our academic summer camp, SuperCamp, find out an important life lesson when we talk to them about how failure leads to success. Our failures provide us with valuable gifts—they give us the information we need to learn so that we can succeed next time.
The only path to success is stepping out of your comfort zone and being willing to risk. What keeps us from taking risks? The view that failure is a negative and the fear that failing will cause us shame and guilt. How would you act if you knew that failure is virtually your only path to success? We know this because nearly all successful people failed a lot. But they learned, tried a new way, and went on to succeed.
If you hear the word “failure,” what emotion does it evoke in you? Guilt? Shame? Inadequacy? Not a pretty picture. Failure is the label we stick on unsuccessful ventures. It’s practically synonymous with incompetence. The word alone brings up feelings of shame and humiliation.
When we fail, we automatically send ourselves bad messages. We discourage ourselves from trying again, because if we try we risk another failure. It’s true that when you give up trying, you don’t have to face failure anymore. But you’ll have close to zero chance of achieving success. In order to really succeed, you’ve got to be willing to fall on your face a few times.
You didn’t start out being afraid of failing or hating to fail. When you were tiny, failure didn’t weigh you down with emotional sludge. When you failed as a toddler learning to walk, you had a good cry then you stood up, dusted yourself off, and kept on going. But somewhere along the way you learned that trying and not succeeding was bad. That it meant trying was bad. That it meant you were bad.
Your failures by themselves aren’t so terrible, for the most part. It’s how you think about them that gives them the power to shut you down.
When you fail, you experience two types of consequences: internal and external. The external consequences are what happen in the world as a result of your failure. The internal consequences are what happen inside you: the emotional impact of your failure. That math exam you botched your sophomore year? The external consequences were a bad grade and maybe a stern lecture from your parents. The internal consequences were those persistent little demons that whispered, “You’re no good at math. You’re too stupid to do this.” The bad grade came and went—the little voices stayed.
Because our society views failure in a negative way, we learn to avoid trying new things. Instead of risking failure, we fall back into the comfort zone of the familiar, the tried and true. In order to avoid humiliation, we let fabulous opportunities pass us by. But if you’re going to harness the power that lies within your failures, you’ll have to change the way you think about them. Learn to see them for the gifts they are.
Failure is not just one possible path; it’s practically the only path to success. It’s necessary. It’s required. You can’t succeed without learning. And in order to learn, you have to risk failure. Learning doesn’t happen in an atmosphere of fear. Why not? Because fear shuts down the experimentation process. People don’t take risks when they’re afraid. They won’t try something new. And what is learning if not trying new things? You can’t succeed if you can’t grow. You can’t grow if you can’t learn. You can’t learn if you can’t fail.
Of course, there’s a huge difference between appropriate and inappropriate risk. Not all risks are of equal value; not all risks are worth taking. Deciding the value of a risk is a skill like any other. Weigh the rewards of each risk against its potential outcomes, and look at the circumstances in terms of its impact on your inner vision.
You have to risk failure in order to learn anything. Whether you fail or not, risk-taking alone is a powerful learning tool. But the actual experience of failing is the fastest way to learn. Failure vastly improves your odds of success, particularly in the long run, because it tells you what to do—and what not to do—next. When you diagnose your failures and figure out where you went wrong, you’re teaching yourself, literally by trial and error, how to go right. Failing is a great way to learn and grow.
Treat your failures as gifts. Whenever you fail, the universe has just handed you a piece of wisdom. Don’t let it go to waste. Mine it for all it’s worth. Ask yourself:
• What happened?
• What did I learn?
• What will I do differently next time?
“Life is a series of outcomes,” says Simone Carruthers, psychologist and business consultant. “Sometimes the outcome is what you want. Great. Figure out what you did right. Sometimes the outcome is what you don’t want. Great. Figure out what you did so you don’t do it again.”
The only time you’ve really failed is when you fail to learn from your mistakes.
Affirmations for FAILURE LEADS TO SUCCESS:
• I’m not afraid to make mistakes.
• When I make them, I take the time to learn from them.
• I believe failures are opportunities for growth.
“Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.” —Henry Ford

- Summer Camp Shows Kids All About Commitment
Summer Camp Shows Kids All About Commitment
by: Jim Hartley
One of the 8 Keys of Excellence kids 9-19 learn about at SuperCamp, the life skills and academic summer camp, is Commitment. Commitment is about doing whatever it takes, following your vision without wavering. When you do this, you literally can change the world.
Anyone who has ever succeeded at something difficult did so by being completely committed to the goal. Commitment is the breath-taking moment of making a decision, jumping in, and going forward with gusto. It's the magic moment when all hesitation and ineffectiveness are left behind. The decisive act of making a commitment sets into motion an energy field of action to propel you forward.
Where does your commitment lie! What excites you and spurs you to action? When was a time you were highly committed, and what were the results?
To harness the power of commitment, think about what you love passionately enough to give it all you’ve got—then give it. Commitment can spring from anything that inspires strong feeling. It can be motivated by a deeply felt aspiration, a strongly held principle, or the desire to make a difference in people’s lives.
Commitment comes down to a simple moment of decision: Will you, or will you not, do whatever it takes?
Once you’ve made the decision to follow your passion no matter what, your commitment carries you through. It’s the “no matter what” part that holds all the power. You’re locked into staying the course. You may feel discouraged, even hopeless. You may lose all your confidence in yourself. It doesn’t matter. None of it matters. You’ve vowed to go on trying no matter what. Circumstances become irrelevant in the face of commitment.
Whatever it is that inspires you, give yourself permission to lose yourself utterly in what you love and you’ll have no choice but to commit. Simply let your passion take over and you will harness the titanic strength of commitment.
Commitment is all about that moment when there’s no turning back—the magic that results when you’re truly committed. It’s a mind-set where there are no other options. There are no more debates, no mind-games, no procrastination. There is only action, single-minded, focused, and pure. That commitment wields a mighty power and brings with it an intense joy.
One thing to remember here is that "I'll try" doesn't work! You may get up enough courage to go for it, but you haven’t really made a commitment if you tell yourself, “Well, I’ll try.” You’re not committed to doing whatever it takes to succeed. In fact, you’ve given yourself an out. Now, when you fall short of the mark, you can say, “Well, I tried.” When you’re not committed, you leave a crack open for hesitation. Hesitation leaks energy. Energy leaks reduce the chance of success.
To the uncommitted, the committed look strangely fortunate. Happy circumstances just seem to land in their laps. They seem, almost uncannily, to meet the people they need to know and find the opportunities they need. They see solutions where others only see obstacles. But the committed will tell you it’s not because they view things differently than the non-committed; it’s because they never stop looking for a way to make their dreams happen.
That’s the primary characteristic of committed people: They’re driven by their dreams.
Affirmations for COMMITMENT:
• I have a clear vision and I stay true to it.
• I do whatever it takes to get the job done.
• I can be counted on to keep my word.
"Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it." —Goethe

- Freeware Games And How To Find Them.
Freeware Games And How To Find Them.
by: Aiden Zapora
There are lots of different ways to have fun. A lot of what you choose depends on where you are in life, old or young. Today's youth enjoy computer-based gaming. There are many choices. Some of the games can be expensive, and gaming firms are getting a large portion of the spending money of the kids purchasing the games. Luckily, there are also a lot of freeware games. Game enthusiasts have made this a popular, and much cheaper, alternative for kids. A kid can download the game and play it with no charges involved.
So what's in it for the people who put these games online for free? Most of these individuals are enthusiastic gamers who simply love to develop and produce new and exciting games. Freeware is simply a way for them to get their product out there are share it with likeminded others. It's sort of an "open mic night" for video games.
Furthermore, freeware games often serve as a means to display their grudges against the developers of proprietary games. Say if a gaming enthusiast believes that some feature of a popular proprietary game is not up to the mark, he will try to build a game with similar objective and playing rules with the improved feature that was missing in the original proprietary game.
There is no dearth of variety in freeware games. You can choose a freeware game from adventure online games (http://www.letsplaygamesnow.com/), shooting online games, driving games online (http://www.letsplaygamesnow.com/tag/driving-games-online), strategic games online etc. Lately, there has been considerable variety of games within these broad groups.
Freeware games (http://www.letsplaygamesnow.com/tag/freeware-games) are often supported by the existence of pay-per-click ads. Usually freeware sites will feature a few advertisements, and if they are clicked, the site owner gets a small amount of money in return. At the end of a specified period, the dollar amount of all the clicks is tabulated and the owner is presented with his payment.
Until recently, freeware games were not concentrated on creativity and novelty. On the other hand, there have been drastic changes lately. These days one can take part in role playing games with a huge number of participants at no charge. One can also create one's own simulation inside the online worlds. There is an infinite range of possibilities.

- Mario Online Games With An Internet Connection And A Computer
Mario Online Games With An Internet Connection And A Computer
by: Aiden Zapora
Anyone who has heard of the company called Nintendo is likely familiar with their mascot character Mario. Some people wish they could go back and play their favorite video games they played when they were younger; not realizing it is possible to play those great games again today.
Unlike when we were younger, you no longer need an expensive game console or special controllers to play the games that you have always loved. Playing mario online games (http://www.letsplaygamesnow.com/tag/mario-online-games) is just one of the many things you can do online, from home, with the computer you already use every day.
It is not difficult to find mario online games. Simply perform a search on your favorite search engine and you will discover numerous games featuring both Mario and his brother Luigi. Often mario online games can be utilized by just logging into a gaming site. On other sites it will be necessary to download online games (http://www.letsplaygamesnow.com/tag/download-online-games) so that you can play them when you are offline.
In fact, besides mario online games, you can find many other types of games on the Internet. One type of game, rpg online games (http://www.letsplaygamesnow.com/tag/rpg-online-games), are becoming more and more common. Rpg stands for role playing games. This is where you become a fictional character and complete the game through the eyes of that character. Sometime you have the choice of which character you want to be, and sometimes you get to create a character from scratch. It all depends on which game you choose.
Just like the famous Sims series of video games, role playing games are similar in that your character can choose a job and go about everyday activities just like any normal person. As you earn money or meet online friends, you can buy new possessions just like a person would in the real world.
Other role playing games work on a more limited level in that the character has a task to perform. It may be saving a treasure or destroying an enemy, but once the task is done you (as your character) move on to the next task or find you have completed the game. In any case, online games of all types are becoming more and more popular these days as the technology improves.
